Love your SUV? You’re also in luck with hybrids. Considering the really bad reputation they’ve gotten in the past for using up too much of the nations’ gas reserves, it’s no wonder why many different car manufacturers have targeted SUVs as their vehicle of choice to make into a Hybrid.
Five different automakers all have their own SUV for 2007, all with varying results.
Toyota, the parent company of Lexus, gets the upper-hand on this market as well by placing a model of SUV at either end of the fuel-economy spectrum, so no matter which way consumers choose, a product of theirs will always sell better than all the rest.
The Toyota Highlander (MSRP $33,030) is somewhat of a luxury car itself, but is clearly the more rugged trail-hopping sport utility vehicle of the two Toyota SUV entries.
It has the added distinction of being the only hybrid car ever made to seat seven passengers, as well. With its’ 33 MPG EPA rating, it’s a great choice for the majority of SUV owners, as the Lexus RX 400h (MSRP $41,180) is much more expensive, and only gets 32 MPGs, while having the same engine. (It makes up for the price tag though in pure luxury.)
