Hybrid Electric Vehicles Part Two
Hybrid Electric Vehicles designs
What are the different designs for Hybrid Electric Vehicles?
The design of typical Hybrid Electric Cars may be:
-
parallel design,
What is the parallel design of Hybrid Electric Cars?
The parallel design of Hybrid Electric Cars has the energy conversion unit and energy propulsion unit being directly connected to the wheels of the vehicle.
What is the series design of Hybrid Electric Cars?
In the series design of Hybrid Electric Cars, the primary engine gets connected with the generator that produces enough energy and the electricity so produced charges the batteries which in turn drive electric motor that moves the wheels.
When required, the design may be a combination of the two, as the series configuration may be used for slow speed driving while the parallel configuration can be used for accelerating and for highway driving.
The hybrid electric vehicle does not require its batteries to be charged through connecting with external electric outlets mainly because of the recharging that takes place using regenerative braking or even through use of on-board generators. There are other Hybrid Electric Vehicles being developed, which are known as plug-in hybrid.
